Last weekend we discovered a lovely campsite nestled right under the famous Uffington White Horse in Oxfordshire. Britchcombe Farm campsite was perfect for a weekend away with friends in our bell tent.
The campsite was spread over many of the farm's sloping fields and some even had Tipi's in that you could hire for the night. The farm even had a tea shop open every weekend for cream tea's and was in walking distance of both the Ridgeway and the famous Uffington White Horse and Dragon Hill.
We camped with friends in the enchantingly named Plum Tree field which we had almost to ourselves. The facilities are basic with a few portaloos in each field and a shower in the main farmyard a short walk away, but real fires are positively encouraged and each evening a landrover came around to each field to sell bags of logs, which more than made up for it.
We walked (well some of us had a lift!) to the nearest village of Woolstone and had a drink in the rather charming old world White Horse pub as well as along the Ridgeway and up to the magical White Horse which dates back to 1000 BC!
While the children played happily together in the field, we sat by the fire and watched red kites fly overhead - a perfect weekend!
