playing shop...

this was one of my favourite childhood games, playing shop and I love that my boys want to play too. We cleared out the treehouse and put the shop inside. We chose all the small stuff out of the cupboards {small cereal boxes, tea, baking powder, raisins and spices} to fit on the shelves.

We had shopping baskets and real money and even a queue! We had so much fun we may branch out and open a coffee shop too tomorrow!

  1. Good morning! We love to play "store" here too. Have you seen the cash register project on Kids Craft Weekly? It is fun and easy to make.

Found the cash register here http://www.kidscraftweekly.com/shopping_issue.html and loads more what a good site - I see I am going to spend some more time going through back issues of the newsletter for some more ideas - thanks for the tip, emma x

  3. Ours made a logo, an open/closed sign that could be turned around and even a 'back in 5 mins' sign to allow for toilet breaks! as they've got older they've progressed to have an old phone in there for orders for home delivery..which means that they rigged up some scooters with shop logos and buckets to carry the supplies! THe plastic carrier bag issue has also been addressed...i only found that out when i noticed MY cloth bags were being taken down the garden!

Happy shopping...it's good, honest, old fashioned play isn't it? I love it!

  6. Store and library were a big hit on summer vacations at Grannie and grandpa's house. They had a screened in porch off the dining room with two windows that open onto it. It was perfect to play store through and my grannie had endless patience with me. She retired when I was young but had worked for years as a reference and school librarian so I had lots of tools of the trade to play with. Certainly stamping the cards with the date stamp was the best part. here is a freebie I found a while back for library return cards and envelopes - if you printed some of these out and got a date stamp you would be all set for library pretending
